The Economics of Social Justice and Injustice
In this course, students will look at the relationship between capitalism and inequalities, especially through the lens of inequalities in race, class, and gender in the US. This course has three goals. The first two goals are for students to learn how to examine data and do an economic analysis on the costs of a social injustice that stems from the inequalities and the benefits (including social benefits) of a policy solution/prescription. The third goal is for students to do something towards a social injustice using their knowledge and analyses. This is where the Wiki Education assignment comes in. In this assignment, students learn how to identify, address and ameliorate inequalities in representation of marginalized and/or underrepresented groups of people in public conversations.
