Comm 4153 is designed to acquaint students with the major theories, principles, and latest research findings regarding nonverbal communication and its role in the total communication process including basic characteristics of the nonverbal elements of human communication in the oral communication setting. As such, it aims to provide a solid grounding for advanced study of nonverbal communication and complement other advanced topics in human communication. Emphasis is on the functions nonverbal communication performs in daily interactions. The content is multidisciplinary with primary emphases on scientific observation, hypothesis testing, but also intuition, and experience.
