Racialized Gender and Rebel Media

This course is an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of women’s studies and an exploration of the ways that media has been used for racial justice, feminist activism, and cultural transformation, with a principal focus on the work of women of color. Throughout the semester, students will develop an understanding of the theories and methods of critical race feminism, an ability to critique differing media formats in terms of their purposeful goals, and an ability to apply the concepts we learn to design their own activist media campaign.
