Freshwater Ecosystems and Watershed Management
This course introduces students to the physical, chemical, and biological components of freshwater ecosystems. The lecture portion of the course focuses on theory, content, disciplinary-specific terminology, and using this knowledge to effectively manage freshwater ecosystems and resources. The lab portion focuses on development of field-based skills, data collection, and data analysis. The Wikipedia project for this course will have students create or expand articles about freshwater ecosystems in southeastern North Carolina. Students will compile information from journal articles, government reports, and other documents to develop Wikipedia pages that reflect the current knowledge and understanding of these ecosystems, many of which have historical, ecological, or economic importance in the region.
