HONR Freshman Honors Colloquium I
The colloquium is designed to be a rigorous course in reading, thinking and writing about literature and ideas. The goal of the courses are to develop habits of intellectual inquiry, mature understanding and effective communication that will serve the students through the college years and afterward. FHC is the foundational Honors Experience. It is much more than a freshman course in writing and composition. It is a course in which thoughtful, focused discussion plays a great role in the development of skills in written and oral argument and expression. Students will read and engage in critical analysis of the novels AMERICAN GODS and THE LOST GOD. For the Wiki Project, they can improve the article on AMERICAN GODS or create an article about THE LOST GOD. (After some research on THE LOST GOD, it might be more suitable for a Fandom Wiki or at least the self-published/independent/"non-traditional" category of books.) The "original research essay" will prompt them to synthesize their ideas based on the course's thematic approach to reading of these novels, critical essays, and other texts.
