Plant Biochemistry

The overall objective of BBMB 531 is in-depth exploration of the unique aspects of plant biochemistry. Specific learning objectives are as follows:

  1. Understand how the unique aspects of plant organization (i.e., organelles and tissues) impact their metabolism.
  2. Understand the mechanisms that plants use to obtain, conserve, and utilize chemical energy.
  3. Know the major pathways used by plants to synthesize and degrade the biomolecules that they require.
  4. Have the ability to use and understand the technical language necessary to communicate this biochemical information.
  5. Be able to explain biochemical processes to individuals without specialized knowledge of chemistry.
  6. Understand how biochemistry integrates with other aspects of plant biology.

Objectives 4 and, particularly, 5 will be addressed by researching and writing/editing Wikipedia articles on topics covered in this course, ideally also related to your own research interests.
