For this reason, of Wikipedia's 5.8 million articles, \u003ca href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_assessment#Statistics\"\u003e4.6 million\u003c/a\u003e are assessed to be either very short \"stubs\" or very rough \"start-class\" articles. This includes a wide range of important subjects waiting for someone with the passion and knowledge to improve them. Many initiatives to recruit new Wikipedians focus on closing content gaps by creating articles. This is a very worthy goal, but for the purposes of Wiki Scholars, your background equips you to take the work other people have started and bring it to a higher level. \u003cstrong\u003eTry to find areas for improvement as well as articles to create\u003c/strong\u003e.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003c!--block--\u003eConsider new sections, improving definitions and clarity of writing, think about maps, images, and diagrams, include missing sources, evaluate what other articles the article you are looking at could link to.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003c!--block--\u003eArticles that have a star or a green circle with a plus symbol are Featured Articles and Good Articles, respectively. This means they've received some kind of peer review to be certified as among the best articles on Wikipedia. That doesn't mean they don't need improvement, but they're also not the articles that most need attention. They're also particularly difficult to edit for new contributors, regardless of expertise, due to the policies, guidelines, stylistic rules, and past discussions relevant to such pages. \u003cstrong\u003eAvoid articles that don't need significant improvements\u003c/strong\u003e.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003c!--block--\u003eWikipedia has strict rules about editing articles with a conflict of interest. \u003cstrong\u003eAvoid topics for which you have a personal, professional, or financial connection\u003c/strong\u003e. Every article is in one or more categories visible at the very bottom of the page. If you click on one of them, you'll be taken to a list of other articles in that category, many of which may need improvement. You can even check to see what parent categories that category is in.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003c!--block--\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWikiProjects\u003c/strong\u003e are informal groups of editors with shared interests and a shared space to coordinate improvement of articles in a given topic area. There are hundreds of WikiProjects, some of which will be relevant to your interests. Unfortunately, not all of the WikiProjects are active, but they typically maintain lists of articles for improvement and can sometimes serve as venues to find like-minded editors to collaborate with.
